HOVERBIKE - April 2020 update

Well....I think I might have finished the lion's share of the HOVERBIKE 1/6th scale vehicle production. Let's toss on some music and review where I'm at, shall we?

I started talking about this project...in 2013.
https://onesixgo.blogspot.com/2013/02/new-project-hover-bike.html

Seven years later, I finally have something close to a finished product. hehehehe. It was slow going - mostly due to analysis paralysis and fear over messing it up. That's the funny part. Messing it up? Who'd care other than me?

Moving on...

I started off here after the last update for the most part...

Sprayed the "hover rings" to match the theme. Looking back, I think that I liked the grey theme a bit better. It was a bit darker and "cooler", but the red is fun, too.

Yeah...that orange has to go.....

A fun, sci fi addition....whatever they do. ;)  I like asymmetrical over symmetrical.

Grunged up the red a bit to weather it down from the bright red look.

Found my GUNDAM decals that I purchased for my robot project and thought, "Yeah...this will work for the hoverbike." :::grin:::

The painted battery compartment looks much better in black. That Halloween orange was making me crazy!
I plan to touch this part up a bit to give it a more finished look. It was a last minute addition.

I added some wires to the engine area to liven it up a bit and also painted sections to get some visual separation to the area. I think I'll go in and add a bit more and detail the area with yet more MILLIPUT putty. Give it a more finished look.

And there it is! Finally finished the concept I had seven years ago. Pretty happy with it overall.

NEXT STEPS

The last thing I want to do is make a base for this with acrylic poles holding it about three or five inches off the ground and at a racing angle. The base will have to be rather heavy because this piece is SUPER heavy. That Milliput is great, but added a lot of weight because of how much I used.

I thought about finding someone with one of these signs to sell locally and using its base as the hoverbike base.

I think that would do the trick! That's all going to be worked out in a bit when things calm down a bit. For now, I'll just set this on the shelf somewhere close as a reminder that these projects don't need to be so scary. That's the big take away here - don't be afraid to just...dive in and DO something!

Thanks again to the amazing DORGMAL SNOW for being such an inspiration and for taking the time to help me answer some important project questions!

Hoverbike update - March 3rd, 2020

The ladies have gotten some work done on the hoverbike! :::grin::::

Loving the MILLIPUT product!!! Works like it says on the tin. It's a two part putty product that is nice and sticky to hold parts together, but then it drys rock hard in about three hours. Thanks again to Dorgmal Snow for the heads up on this product! https://www.facebook.com/dorgmal  It's been the base for things through my whole process and I actually plan on using a lot more to finish things off this week.

I had plans on building out the hover sections with styrene, but I think I'm going to mostly use Milliput with my additions and battery pack instead of a lot of styrene cutting. And, seeing as weight isn't a problem, I'm not worried about the additional putty weighing it down.

I'm using one of my N scale lighting packs to light it up as well.

And saving small drink bottles and bits of plastic is a great way to add some details to your projects! :)

So, it only took six or so years to get to this point. hehehehe . Now I'm excited to finish, but also want to make sure I'm not being too slap-dash with things. Sections like the tubes above and the putty I slapped on will be covered up with some details to make it look less sloppy. The Devil's in the details.  I really want to detail this up once the main part of the bike is finished. Little bits stacked on to make it look a bit more sci fi.

ONWARD!

Comments welcome.

Robot Kitbash Revisited

I was trying to gear up for doing my 1:6 scale hoverbike project and needed a little creative boost to get over the starting fears I have. Not sure why I have them - it's not like anyone is going to freak out if it doesn't come together. It's a project for fun, so why the hell do I want to stress out over it?

So, I went through my boxes and dug out my old PROJECT ROBO for a little walk down memory lane.

Original posting here:

Funny to think that this little kid toy got made into a fun, sixth scale mecha. Give me hope for my hoverbike! :)

I killed off the voice here, I believe.

Sprayed up. Took the treads off so it would still be mobile.

Yes, the lights actually work.
